X ~ An Xt Called Stanley

An Xt Called Stanley by Robert Trebor is one of those books I love because it surprised me.  I found it, with it's interesting artwork and intriguing synopsis, at yet another Friends of the Library book sale.  When you get a book you've never heard of by an author you've never heard of for a quarter, you hope for the best and prepare to be disappointed.

This book was such a great example of classic science fiction.  I read it almost ten years ago now and still remember it with fondness.  I don't imagine it's easy to find but if you find a copy, grab it.  You will be glad you did.

  1. I know what you mean. I have discovered some of my favourite books on the remainders table. You think - for that price, why not? And so you take a chance. In my case, I discovered Mack Reynolds, Lois McMaster Bujold, Rober E Howard and the Orson Scott Card Ender books - all on the remainders table!

  2. Just a suggestion, Julie - why not make it easier for people to follow your blog by turning on the followers option? I've gone through the fiddly Feedburner process to follow by email, but plenty of people won't bother. It would be nice to find your posts on my Dashboard! :-)

    1. Sue, I have a question for you. What and where is the followers option? Is this a blogger ability? (I'm WordPress but there is probably a plugin for it if I know how it works.) Thanks. You can leave a note for me on my site: X is for What's Your Blog's EXciting X Factor? as you Build a Better Blog. #atozchallenge

  4. I've never heard of this, but I LOVE classic science fiction. A charity stopped by at Chicago's version of Comic Con last weekend to give away old science fiction books like this -- a shame I didn't read this review before then. :p Thanks for sharing!

  6. Oh - I want to read this book and not just because it starts with X. I did tr to post an encouragement on Y for people to support the Friends of the Library. Their book sales are a great way to do just that.
